The History; Why Nutriiveda For Therapeutic Use for Autism, Apraxia Etc.

Why Nutriiveda?!!

Written by Lisa Geng, mom to 2 boys that were “late talkers” President of Cherab Foundation, and co-author of The Late Talker book

Why would anyone use a product formulated for weight management in adults for children with autism, seizures or apraxia, and who was the first one that even thought to try it?

This is a frequent question that arises when one hears about the growing group of individuals of varied ages with special needs or various diagnosis having remarkable improvements on Nutriiveda (NV) over the past year.

The Answer

Because it works!  The therapeutic affects of the essential amino acids and other nutrients found through the food ingredients of Nutriiveda original formula were discovered and shared by Lisa Geng, the mother of two (previous) “late talkers” one with apraxia and one with ADHD, who has run the Cherab Foundation since 1999 and who co authored the book The Late Talker.  Lisa previously discovered and shared the therapeutic aspects of essential fatty acids and hosted conferences through Cherab with leading research doctors in the world of PUFA.  ”Schools of Fish Teach Children To Speak” was one headline from over a decade ago that was mocked by some; but well accepted in numerous medical professional circles today.  With the success of Nutriiveda original and the paradigm shift it’s brought to so many conditions.  Read “Brief Intro To What Is NV Original?

The following is just one example in a typical 14 year old with apraxia.   There is more below on how Nutriiveda’s therapeutic use was first discovered and how we now are looking at research to validate.

From Struggles with Apraxia to Honors English Tanner Geng and His Success Story

My son at 13 was considered a success, but there were issues.. He was mainstreamed and I no longer had him in speech therapy even though he would once in a while see  a therapist. He accepted how he spoke, and so did we. We accepted that he could communicate well enough to have friends, be in school mainstreamed without support, read the menu and order his own food at a restaurant. And we also knew that nobody would know Tanner had a speech issue if he kept his answers short- not unless he let his guard down and tried to talk in complex thoughts.

But what my son was like a year ago -this is what we accepted that is all gone now -he’s normalized:

1. Lags in both reading and writing. He was on level on both and tested to be above average in his concepts -but his expression was lagging. Reading outloud or writing was not enjoyable to him and I had to work with him with his homework. It was a struggle.

2. He didn’t pick up abstract type humor if we were watching adult TV shows like say The Office. He was more literal- he enjoyed America’s Funniest Home Videos for example.

3. He was also literal in his ability to listen. If a teacher said he had to do something like unplug unused appliances around the house to help save the planet- he would unplug appliances around our house and if I asked him what he was doing he would say “Mom don’t you care about planet Earth?!” If the teacher said “OK class after we are done I don’t want anyone to leave until you help me clean up” Everyone would leave when they were done and I was told by a few very proud teachers that “He was the only one that helped me” I was the strange parent that wasn’t happy to hear that compliment. I knew he wasn’t normal and wanted him to stray into abstract thought a bit more!!

4. His ability in sports was clumsy but committed. Poor little guy would push himself till he was literally exhausted but his abilities were far short of other boys his age. He didn’t run well, nor would you use the word effortless or graceful to describe him when he was playing sports. While his brother and all the other neighborhood kids wore Heelys and used skate boards, Tanner would have his own but would never use them. His reflexes were sluggish as well.

5. He would tire easily and take naps when home from school.

6. Tanner never felt pain like others.  He was called the “tough kid” when he got shots because he didn’t cry, but he would say “ow” and cringe away if you tickled his arm, or patted his head.  A few years ago he was at a sleep over and broke his finger playing football, but the family didn’t know it was broken because he didn’t tell them he hurt it.  The next day when I went to pick him up he wanted to stay and swim, still not saying anything was wrong with his finger.  The only reason I found out was because he couldn’t “really bend it” anymore so I took him to the hospital where even when the doctor touched where the break was he didn’t flinch, but it was a broken finger.

All these things we started to accept were who he was, and while I think any typeof story of progress is great -until every rock is unturned if a new one pops up I think it’s worth exploring. Then if that doesn’t work you know that you helped your child get to as far as potentially possible.

And maybe the only reason I did try something was because I wasn’t trying to help Tanner’s speech or motor skills or anything else at this point. Probably not but maybe.

For years I have had him on fish oils.  Years ago few tried them, but today many use fish oils and the essential fatty acids are known to be effective. But most of the world doesn’t know about NV yet.

My son has had within the one year on NV surges across the board that are SO profound that every single person that meets him now that knew him just 18 months ago is SHOCKED. He quickly on NV developed a tremendous surge in complex language, independence and excellence in academics, grace and abilities in sports in basketball, football to the point if you didn’t know it was him you’d never know it was him on that field, quick reflexes, fully developed mature abstract sense of humor that he both understands if he hears it and knowledge in how to make others laugh in this area, passion for music, interest in current events and wanting to discuss them, tremendous growth from a stocky 5 foot 7 slightly overweight child who had been on a healthy organic diet but was that way regardless to a muscular SIX FOOT ONE 14 year old.

Tanner feels pain normally now -he’s not really thrilled about it –he said to me “wouldn’t you rather not feel pain all the way?” And I told him it was a warning system for his body -so pain is a good thing to feel normally -besides he did feel pain before -for stuff he shouldn’t feel pain about -like a pat on the head or a tickle etc.  (for more documentation on ability to feel pain and normalization in this area read more here)

And cherry on top -he was recommended for honors classes for high school and of all things honors English too. He gave a verbal report in school and got an A and her just wrote to YADA about it.

“I’m not in speech therapy. I gave a verbal report today and the teacher wrote down that I was nice and loud and with a clean voice. Sometimes if I am tired my speech messes up.”

December 2011 update

Tanner placed 2nd in a debate tournament December 2011

Two years on Nutriiveda original and in benchmark testing done by his high school where he is mainstreamed, fully independent and in honors, even though his grades were already honors level (average 88 GPA) he went up another 6 points in English and 16 in math!  He’s on his HS debate team (debate…a former child with apraxia!) and…he placed second in December of 2011!!  Tanner’s on debate because he wants to be a special education attorney to help other children like him in the future!

What has amazed me is the number of kids older than my son in that group who are still impaired in speech, still having trouble being understood at time.  How many are teased. And so far none have ever used fish oils (or no way NV as that’s so new)

Taking Nutriiveda (NV) has resulted in improvements that are far more effective than any drugs or treatments on the market for conditions ranging from autism, stroke, and epilepsy to cognition and Alzheimer’s. These positive effects are not limited to any specific age groups, with results seen in ages ranging from toddlers through to seniors. For example, we have numerous reports of individuals coming off various medications for seizures due to Nutriiveda, only to have their seizures return when these same people stop taking the original Nutriiveda.  Read more Nutriiveda (NV) Original vs. New Achieve & Planned Research For Therapeutic Use

The following was written by Lisa Geng in December 2009 when she first introduced Nutriiveda to the Cherab Foundation, a nonprofit she founded to support those with communication delays and impairments due to her own children.  At that time Lisa was not sure if the results she saw in her apraxic son Tanner and a few others were unique.  Fast forward a year where now there are close to a thousand families that have their children and families taking Nutriiveda for health and therapeutic benefits.  Reports from parental as well as professional anecdotal feedback is that one or more of the essential nutrients in Nutriiveda appears to be helping the body to help itself.  In spite of how far we have come in both knowledge of theories as to why Nutriiveda may be so effective as well as the tremendous amount of dramatic surges for various conditions and various ages, we chose to leave this letter the way it was in it’s original, so that it’s clear that Nutriiveda was discovered by accident to be helpful in an area that was outside the scope of what it was created for.

As the old expression by Mark Twain states so well “Accident is the name of the greatest of all inventors.

The author Lisa Geng

A note from Lisa Geng (Written December 2009)

My name is Lisa Geng and I am the parent of two “late talkers” founder of the Cherab Foundation and the co author of the book The Late Talker, What to Do If Your Child Isn’t Talking Yet [St Martin's Press].  My youngest son Tanner was diagnosed with apraxia right before his third birthday in 1999 when I started the nonprofit.  In addition to appropriate speech and occupational therapies I found great success with both my boys with the use of essential fatty acids or EFAs which appear to help stimulate and accelerate speech and over the past decade learned most others found the same via exciting parental as well as professional anecdotal feedback.  All that was needed was clinical research to validate this simple, inexpensive and benign treatment.

The problem is that up till now research for apraxia has been virtually nonexistent due to lack of funding.  As the parent of a now 13 year old with apraxia, I am excited to announce that we now we have a tremendous opportunity to raise money for research on essential fatty acids therapeutic effects on apraxia with leading medical and speech professionals to help bring a voice to the growing number of children diagnosed with apraxia.

Apraxia, also known as dyspraxia, is a neurologically based motor planning disorder that affects a child’s ability to be able to talk and/or coordinate fine/gross motor skills. While it is still relatively a less commonly known condition, it appears to be on the rise internationally for unknown reasons; it is frequently occurring in families with no genetic predisposition. Apraxia can exist alone as a speech issue, but apraxia commonly presents itself as a multifaceted condition with sensory integration dysfunction and/or hypotonia (low muscle tone).

As awareness about apraxia has increased in the autism community, it has come to light that a large number of children diagnosed with autism have underlying and undiagnosed apraxia; which affects their ability to speak. In fact, a small percentage of children have been misdiagnosed with autism but in fact, these children actually have just apraxia, which affects their ability to speak, not their ability to understand and use language.

In educational settings, many of these children are misclassified and placed in inappropriate disability-related classes when they could be mainstreamed if given the appropriate opportunity.

I met with Susan Walsh and she told me about her grandson Preston, who had been diagnosed with apraxia and her desire to help us raise funding for research. I was thrilled about Susan’s offer of help for many reasons.

Susan has a track record of making millions in network marketing and in helping others do the same.

Special needs families today are feeling the pain of the current economic crunch. It’s not just about paying the mortgage and day to day expenses, but about being able to pay for expensive therapies; often not covered by insurance.

Susan’s offer of help not only promotes the raising of monies for research, but also to offer another source of income for our families as well as the ability to spend more time with your child to help them, without having to take time off from work.

Along came NutriiVeda…
I would like to share an incredible surprise about Zrii’s NutriiVeda. I signed up the Cherab Foundation into the Zrii company, the CEO of Zrii being the very respected business icon multibillionaire Mr. William Farley and the products formulated and endorsed by a team of world renowned medical doctors including Bill Farley’s good friend Dr. Deepak Chopra, only knowing about the liquid Amalaki supplement which impressed me initially. Soon after, Zrii launched an all-natural weight management product called NutriiVeda: likewise endorsed by the prestigious Chopra Center for Wellbeing.

Let me tell you why this product initially interested me.  I thought of the parents who were spending so much time in therapy that they didn’t have time to work out.  I thought of the professionals who work so many hours that ‘they’ don’t have time to work out.  And I thought of my son Tanner who, unlike the rest of my family, seemed to hold weight no matter that he didn’t eat more than my other child.

Tanner didn’t always struggle with his weight, but a few years ago we put him on a product called Pharma Omega Speak that had high vitamin E and K based on some beliefs at that time, and while some children had seizures in our group, my son had massive regressions, and..it seemed to affect his metabolic system.  It took about seven months for his speech to came back, but the metabolic issue appeared to remain.  We continued to feed him healthy, organic, and he was very active, but he couldn’t even lose a pound.  We even bought him a large trampoline for the holidays last year, and every day he would jump up and down on that trampoline for over an hour and come in the house exhausted. No changes.

Now 13, we decided to start Tanner on NutriiVeda. He started at 162 pounds and 5’ 8” tall.  When I told him about this powder his exact words were “yeah right Mommy sure…something is wrong with my ‘tabolism.”

_______________________________________________________

He didn’t have much faith in NutriiVeda… and being honest I was hopeful but not sure it would do anything either.

_______________________________________________________

I was wondering if his weight issues had anything to do with his condition.

Two days after starting NutriiVeda, he lost 1 ½ pounds. I’ll never forget standing by the scale. I couldn’t even talk because I was laughing saying ”Tanner!  You lost a pound and a half!!”  You have no idea how shocked we all were because Tanner had never lost weight. Five days later Tanner lost a total of SIX POUNDS!

It was surreal.  Nobody believed it. People noticed that Tanner looked “thinner,”  “toned down,” and “great.” The results were not only visible to those who know him, but Tanner for the first time was thrilled.  He not only lost weight, but he enjoyed the shakes and wasn’t hungry.  I was able to give him healthy light foods for lunch and, for the first time, Tanner didn’t come home saying “you didn’t give me enough lunch I am starving!” In addition even though Tanner was always tall for his age, within that few months he grew a few more inches.  Tanner lost a total of 15 pounds and was now 148 and about 6 foot tall.  My other son who is a poor eater didn’t necessarily look skinny, but at 15 years old within the same few months he gained 17 pounds and grew about 2 inches and went from 5 foot 10 to about 6 foot as well.  My boys were now taller than both mom and dad!

But there were more incredible news to report.

Tanner’s speech became smoother and faster than ever which is not only incredible, but extremely intriguing.  It raises the question of whether NutriiVeda is somehow helping with Tanner’s metabolic functioning.

It was about a week after Tanner started the NutriiVeda that we all started to notice his speech getting better.  Quite honestly we were all so focused on the six pound weight loss; our main focus. Clearly his speech had improved.  Another week went by and Tanner lost another two pounds for a total of an eight pound weight loss in two weeks.  As good as that news was, there was the fact that NutriiVeda appeared to be in such high demand that it was on backorder.

I had to cut Tanner’s NutriiVeda back substantially in fear of running out prior to getting more in.  He was upset as well saying to me “Mommy why did you have to tell everyone about it?!”  He thought it was because of me that this huge company had a backorder!

But something interesting happened; about 4 days into the greatly reduced dosage Tanner’s speech regressed back.  I asked him what was going on with his speech and he stuttered “I don’t know I’m just all bumpy again.” The only thing I could think of was the NutriiVeda. The next day I gave him once again a full dosage and sure enough his speech was better.  In addition to weight loss and speech improvements in the weeks that followed we’ve noticed the following side benefits which are all out of character for Tanner prior:  waking up each morning prior to his alarm, greater interest in reading and sharing the books he is reading (in detail), reading a chapter book in two days, sudden ability to independently blink one eye at a time, being regular daily.  I spoke with the head of Tanner’s school who confirmed that at school they too are noticing a changed student all of a sudden.  I’m told about how he is walking the halls with his head in a book reading.  That after lunch prior to NutriiVeda Tanner would seem “wiped out” and that now he’s “alert” with “improved speech” and “participating more in class”.

It’s now been a few months on the NutriiVeda and there are many others seeing the same surges in their children (of all ages from 2 years old to teens and adults) with diagnosis of apraxia, autism, TBI, global delays, ADHD.  The following is a list of the areas we are seeing surges in, and in almost all cases within 3 to 5 days:

SPEECH articulation, complexity and sophistication of sentence structure
LANGUAGE better understanding of written and spoken word, development of better reading and writing skills
ACADEMICS/LEARNING reported surges in all areas of school. For preschool age sudden awareness of numbers, letters, even spelling
FINE AND GROSS MOTOR SKILLS improvements in various activities reported including riding a bike, swimming to buttoning pants
POTTY TRAINING and bed wetting resolved for those of all ages who had issues are reported
SENSE OF HUMOR both catching subtle humor/abstract humor, and wanting to make others laugh-joking around
AWARENESS OF SURROUNDINGS (for autism) reported following gaze and more interactions
FACIAL EXPRESSIONS more non-verbal communication, for oral apraxia more expressions instead of blank stares when not engaged in conversation
FOCUS on task, more willing to listen and try
MULTI TASKING for those with motor planning impairments such as apraxia as this is something typically not done or done well prior to NV
SOCIAL wanting to participate with others via play and communication
MOOD reported seems “happier” for a number
BEHAVIOR normalization reported in a few cases of those with severe behavioral issues of head banging, butting, hitting, aggression and anger issues
MUSIC increased interest in listening to, humming or singing music
DEVELOPMENTAL CATCHING UP for those that never went through stages -reportedly going through them for the first time.
DECREASE IN SEIZURES so far in several cases elimination of any seizures and headaches and decrease and elimination in seizure meds as well
IMAGINATIVE PLAY increase in imaginative play and story telling
IMPROVED DIET willingness to try more foods for those that were “picky eaters” prior

Within 1 month or more:
SENSORY improvement in sensory awareness for those affected with sensory integration dysfunction
GROWTH reported dramatic surges in height as well as increase in muscle and normalization in weight
REFLEXES normalization of reflexes for those who had poor reflexes

I am not yet suggesting that the results Tanner is having are typical, but based upon the feedback from our group who also started their children on NutriiVeda it appears to be so, and for the majority -again within days.

I again wasn’t even originally thinking of this product for the children- I was thinking of it as something all natural and healthy, endorsed by The Chopra Center for Wellness, founded by Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. David Simon, both board certified doctors, that we as the parents or professionals could try for ourselves risk free as it comes with a one hundred percent money back guarantee.  But as some of you know me through the Cherab Foundation -if I do notice something like this I have to share it.

To be clear the research we originally were raising money for has nothing to do with the NutriiVeda. The money we are raising is for research in essential fatty acids and its effect on speech and motor skills in children with Apraxia.  But as time goes on it does appear that there should be research on the NutriiVeda as well.

Read up on NutriiVeda, Zrii, Deepak Chopra MD,  David Simon MD, Ayurveda, Bill Farley, the Hagar Marketing Group and a committed grandparent of an Apraxic child who wants to help us raise monies, Susan Walsh.

It’s free to be a customer and there is no risk as the products are 100% money back guaranteed. Please take the time to explore more, I’m positive you’ll be as impressed as I was; the true “silent majority” is counting on that!
